Summary

On May 21st, a backend API change caused a specific component of our mobile app to malfunction.

This resulted in the Inbox functionality getting stuck when loading and, therefore, unusable.

The issue was identified, and a new update was published in the app stores to resolve the problem.

Detection

The issue was detected by a combination of internal testing and a spike in error logs.

Root Cause

The issue was caused by a change in the backend API, which was not backwards compatible.

The mobile app relied on the previous version of this API, which caused the Inbox feature to fail.

The incident only occurred on our mobile platform, which was fully operational on the web application.
